Make a Difference in Foster Care
Every day, hundreds of abused or neglected children enter the foster care system. While the goal of the many agencies that will be charged with their care is to ultimately reunite them with their parents, place them with other family members, or have them adopted and placed in permanent homes, many of these children will remain in foster care until they reach adulthood. We can all help somehow–becoming foster/adoptive parents, volunteering at local agencies or non-profit organizations like ours, or becoming mentors or tutors. Won’t you help?

Foster Care Statistics. As of July 2014, The United States Department of Health and Human Services reported that there were 402,378 children in foster care in the United States. As of July 2014, there are 5,254 children in foster care in the state of Maryland. Children in foster care are children from your community. They are children who want to remain attached to their families despite their experiences. They are children whose families need the help of your family. They can be of any age or race, from infants to teenagers of either sex. They are abused or neglected, and some have been exposed to domestic violence or substance abuse. Foster Care Program Goals:

The Child Welfare League of America is the nation’s oldest and largest membership-based child welfare organization. They are committed to engaging people everywhere in promoting the well-being of children, youth, and their families, as well as protecting every child from harm.
Children’s Bureau
The Children’s Bureau (CB) is one of two bureaus within the Administration on Children, Youth and Families, Administration for Children and Families, of the Department of Health and Human Services. The Children’s Bureau works with State and local agencies to develop programs that focus on preventing the abuse of children in troubled families, protecting children from abuse, and finding permanent placements for those who cannot safely return to their homes.
Foster Care Alumni of America
Foster Care Alumni of America connects the alumni community and transforms policy and practice, thereby ensuring opportunity for people in and from foster care. The organization provides a permanent and vibrant extended-family community for all people who share the foster care experience.
FosterClub
FosterClub is the national network for young people in foster care. For young people living in foster care, FosterClub is a place to turn for advice, information, and hope.
National Foster Parent Association
The mission of the National Foster Parent Association is to provide services, support, training, mentoring, and assistance to foster parents.
